MOUNTAINEERING
Nepal is known over the world primarily for Mountaineering. Nepal – home of eight of the worlds’ ten highest peaks. It all begun with the scaling of Mt. Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and his Sherpa colleague Tenzing Norway in 1953 A.D. Then followed by hundreds of mountaineers till now. Of the countless numbers of summits within Nepal More than anything else, Nepal is best known for its mountains and mountaineering. Currently some 236 peaks are available for expedition with an additional 18 minor peaks being designated as “Trekking Peaks”. Expedition to the 8000 m plus are expensive and are usually sponsored. For instance, Everest is currently $ 50,000.
